Fernando Ramón Gavito Pérez is the Executive Director of Terra Peninsular, based in Ensenada, Baja California. In this role, he contributes to the conservation of more than 55,000 hectares of Mediterranean ecosystems that are unique in the world. He is a biologist with experience in the management of protected natural areas, conservation of at-risk species, and sustainable community development. During his time at the General Directorate of Wildlife of SEMARNAT and the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas, he participated in the first reintroduction of Bison and Mexican Wolf in Mexico, in addition to the eradication of different species on islands and protected areas of Mexico. Fernando has worked with Afromestizo, Rarámuri, Pima, and Náhuatl communities in different protected areas of Mexico, promoting processes of sustainable production and conservation of native and Creole species. He has also coordinated fire management planning such as forest fire response, prescribed burns, and integrated restoration projects in different types of ecosystems.
Fernando has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Administration and Public Policy, which has led him to have an the versatility needed to succeed with his varied responsibilities. Carnivores are his favorite animals and traveling with his family is his favorite hobby, especially when he does it for conservation activities.
