Studies and conservation of Tricolored Blackbirds in Southern California

Project Description

The work proposed herein are the first critically needed steps of a long term conservation strategy aimed at stemming the extirpation of Tricolored Blackbirds from Southern California south of the Tehachapis. Proposed is a three‐stage monitoring effort to locate sites important to Tricolored Blackbirds and census the population during the breeding season—early season and late season—and during the winter. Furthermore, also is proposed the immediate development of a prioritization framework that will permit the ranking of breeding sites within Southern California by their conservation concern and facilitate formulation of conservation strategies.
