Status of the Yellow-billed Cuckoo in Sonora, Mexico

While well studied in the U.S., abundance and distribution data for Yellow-billed Cuckoo in Mexico are lacking. Of particular significance for further study are cuckoo populations in Sonora, whose conservation and management could potentially contribute to the recovery of populations in adjacent Arizona.

Through conducting surveys for Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Audubon Arizona shares with us their unique, first-hand opportunity to observe the BLM’s restoration of River Bend. However, countless other degraded sites need our attention and support.

SJV Awards Program Enables Expansion of Cuckoo Research in Mexico

Thanks to the Sonoran Joint Venture’s Awards Program, the Southern Sierra Research Station facilitated a Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo survey training workshop for Mexican biologists to lead surveys in Northwestern Mexico.
