The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK fundraising and grant-giving nature conservation charity offering recognition, training, and grants to support the work of proven grassroots conservation leaders across the Global South. They recently recognized Yuliana Bedolla Guzmán with a 2023 Whitley Award for her work to protect endangered seabird nesting sites off Mexican Pacific Islands. Yuliana is a Project Director with Grupo de Ecología y Conservación de Islas and member of the SJV Science Working Group. She was honored in London by “HRH The Princess Royal, in front of nearly 500 guests and the event was live-streamed to over 1,000 people and counting around the world, which you can watch here.” This prestigious award comes with a £40,000 prize that will be used to protect seabird colonies at two of the most important breeding sites for Black Storm-Petrel and Black-vented Shearwater together with community leaders. And to top it off, Yuliana, GECI, and the WFN team made this incredible video about Yuliana and GECI’s work, narrated by none other than Sir David Attenborough! Congratulations on this amazing achievement Yuliana, and we look forward to seeing what you do next.
