Blake Barbaree is a Senior Ecologist at Point Blue Conservation Science. Blake joined the SJV board in 2023 with 20 years of experience researching bird populations in western North America. Blake received an MS in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University in 2010 and has since focused on conservation science and planning for migratory shorebirds of the Pacific Flyway. His early-career background in applied science on bird movements was the springboard to a position at Point Blue that develops and implements research at local and large scales to bring robust ecological knowledge and science to conservation planning and policy.

Blake has always been intrigued by small and large interactions in the natural world. His favorite Sonoran creature has been the Greater Roadrunner since childhood in rural New Mexico. A deep belief in spending time in nature, observing your surroundings, and communicating your observations, has grown into a career aimed to help balance the needs of humans and healthy ecosystems. His experience working with migratory birds has been humbling and reliant upon skills building human connections between dispersed and disparate ecosystems. Blake’s participation in the Management Board provides critical thinking, listening/observing, and a flyway perspective on bird research and conservation.
